THTR363 Sound Design I
I wrote and recorded several compositions as assignments in Sound Design. The following composition excerpt was created as an exploration of dynamic range in music. I created the score in Digital Performer, with the sounds being triggered by MIDI on a Kurzweil K2600X with third-party organ samples from the organ of St. Bavokerk in Haarlem, Netherlands.
This next selection is a sample from the final project in Sound Design. It consists of a score written to accompany the reading of a sonnet by Dante Gabriel Rossetti. The score was composed in Digital Performer, with samples recorded from a number of sources, including a Kurzweil K2600X, Synthogy Ivory, and East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra.
THTR368 Dance Sound Design
This is part of the composition for "Sublimatter," choreographed by Katie Byrum for the Spring Dance Works. It was recorded using sounds from a Kurzweil K2600X and a Max/MSP synthesizer. The Kurzweil was controlled using MIDI from Digital Performer, and the Max/MSP synthesizer was controlled manually using a Wacom tablet.
Purdue Bands & Orchestra live recording
I made an archival recording of a concert by the Purdue Bands and Orchestra at University Church. As a sample, the excerpt below is from their performance of Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring. To record this concert, I used a Korg MR-1 portable recorder with its supplied stereo microphone.
